Meet Our Founder
Saul Mayanja's Story
Hello friends, my name is Saul Mayanja. I am 25 years old and the founder and director of Jesus is Lord Orphanage in Mityana, Uganda. This initiative began in January 2019 as a result of my past life experiences, which inspired me to support less privileged children in my community.
I lost my parents, Paul Kavuma and Nasita Namaganda, when I was almost 10 years old. This was a turning point in my life, as I was left in the care of my elderly grandmother along with my two siblings. We lived in extreme poverty, struggling to find food and meet other basic needs. From a young age, I worked to support my education and to take care of my grandmother and siblings.
During this difficult time, I saw many other children on the streets struggling as I did. It hurt me deeply to see so many young people without support. I promised myself that if God ever made a way for me, I would do something to help these children. I dreamed of creating a home where we could care for them, nurture them, and offer them hope for a better future.
After years of struggling, a Pentecostal pastor named John Kamanzi sponsored my education. Once I completed school and got a job, I began making my dream a reality. With my first paycheck, I rented a small room and took full responsibility for my siblings and three other parentless boys. With my salary, I covered their basic needs and education.
This is how Jesus is Lord Orphanage was born. Over time, the number of children under our care grew, and we had to move to a larger house.
Helping these children is my calling, and I am grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. Currently, we have 36 children in our care, and our most pressing concerns are feeding, shelter, clothing, education, and medical care.
